Katerina Stamatelou Architect
Public School

Public School,
Kalamaria, Greece
The assignment was about the design of a school in Kalmaria, a city next to the see in Thessaloniki , Greece.
Challenging the typical school unit and inventing a new way of accomodating the educational functions was my intention.
Design strategies:
-Following the natural inclination of the ground
-Taking advantage of the maditerranean climate and the sunny weather and create open air circulation spaces protected by the canopy.
-Creating a central “protected” courtyard
-Differentiation between the 1st and 2nd Cycle of studies.
