"The Architecture of Suspence",
an architectural analysis on the movie "The Trial", by Orson Welles.
The trial is a 1962 film directed by Orson Welles, based on the novel of Franz Kafka (1914-1925). The film is narrating
the story of Josef K. an office clerk who is being accused for a crime (which remains unknown during the whole movie).
The protagonist states his innocence and he is striving to prove it, but in vain. He is being trapped in a situation he cannot escape, looking for help at the parties of the same system that implicated him: justice, the law, the authority, the science, the art and the church. This movie represents of what is still known as “the Kafkaesque”, an atmosphere of “Angst”, resignation and powerlessness linked with the anxieties of postwar life.
